Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Market
It is also known as the Crawford market. This popular hangout is named after Bombay´s first municipal commissioner: Arthur Crawford. The place wass completed in 1869 and was donated to the city by Cowasji Jehangir. The outside walls and the stone fountains were designed by Lockwood Kipling. The clock tower and steeple are the main attractions.The market stands at the northern end of the old British part of the town. It was very popular during the British rule as well till recently. It used to be the main wholesale market for fruits in Mumbai until March 1996, when the wholesale traders were relocated to New Bombay.
