Mani Bhavan

Mani Bhavan is located on Laburnam Road, near the August Kranti Maidan. It was used by Mahatma Gandhi, when he visited Mumbai between 1917 and 1934. It is now a museum. Gandhi’s room and belongings, including his books, are on display here.The house is famous for the reason that it was here the ‘Quit India Movement’ was launched in 1942. Gandhi’s work on the Charkha began from here in 1917. he also spear-headed the Swadeshi, Non-Cooperation, Satyagraha, Khadi and Khilafat movements.The huge mansion originally belonged to Revashankar Jagjeevan Jhaveri and the Mani family earlier. They were Gandhi’s friends and aides in his work in Mumbai. The Gandhi Smarak Nidhi took over it in 1955. It is maintained as a Gandhi memorial.
